Riding With Your Significant Other
By Jeremy Simmons

What’s the secret to happy rides with your partner? It’s a hot topic around the shop at all times of the year. The truth is, there is no secret, just a lot of communication, patience, and creative time-management.

I’m very lucky to have a spouse who loves riding as much as I do. Nonetheless, it’s still hard to balance our aspirations in the sport with the responsibilities of parenting and working full-time. In the last five years, we have only been able to ride together a handful of times, but we always feel so lucky for the opportunity when it arises. Despite being mountain bikers at heart, most of our joint rides have been on the road simply because it’s more convenient for us, but it’s still always an exercise in planning and preparation. It also depends on the help of some very supportive family!

The recent rise in popularity of electronically assisted road bikes has been a boon for cyclists of all levels, allowing riders of different speeds to ride together. My spouse just bought one and I have a feeling this will be a game-changer in our household. Unlike the traditional e-bikes that may come to mind, electronic road bikes are performance rides. Not only are they significantly lighter and faster than typical e-bikes, but they are designed to give riders a regular road bike feel.

We’ve got a range of electronic road bikes at both the Aurora and Barrie locations, including the Domane +LT, +HP, and ALR series. Come give one a test ride. Don’t let differing levels of speed prevent you and your partner from riding together! Regardless of what bike you’re on, however, figuring out ways to explore the roads or trails with loved ones can do wonders for the body and mind. As they say, couples that ride together, stay together!
